George W. Jenkins Scholarship Application

Thank you for your interest in the George W. Jenkins Scholarship.

Each year, the George W. Jenkins Scholarship provides five academically talented students the opportunity to study at Florida Southern College free of economic encumbrances.

Students interested in being considered for this scholarship must first apply and be accepted to Florida Southern College.

Applicants must also demonstrate exceptional financial need and be U.S. citizens, legal residents of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, or Tennessee, and a high school graduate entering Florida Southern College as a first-time freshmen.

Minimum requirements for consideration are a high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in college preparatory subjects, a 26 on the ACT, or a 1240 SAT (ERW + M) or 1170 SAT (CR + M). 

Students who have overcome significant economic obstacles while achieving academic and personal goals will receive special consideration.

To apply, complete the application below and be sure to provide the following materials:
  • A completed FAFSA (The FAFSA is available online after October 1)
  • Records of participation and leadership in school or community organizations, evidence of a strong work ethic, and the motivation to succeed are important factors.
  • Two letters of reference that address your merit and financial need. You may select anyone from your community who you believe can best address your strength of personal character and your commitment to your education. Recommendations used in support of your admission application, may not be submitted again in support of your scholarship application.

Applications have two possible deadline dates. The priority application date is December 15, and applications are due no later than January 15.

Students who apply by December 15 will be notified if they are selected for an interview by January 3, and finalists will have an opportunity to choose from three interview dates: January 27, February 17 or March 17. Students who apply by January 15 will be notified by January 31 and finalists will choose from two interview dates: February 17 or March 17. Interviews will be held during Scholars Weekend.

It is not required, but you are welcome to upload a resume to share extracurricular, leadership and community service activities and/or any special accolades you have earned.

Essay
Write a 250-400 word essay explaining why  you believe yourself deserving of the George W. Jenkins Scholarship. Include details concerning economic or other obstacles that you have overcome to achieve your academic and personal goals.

An official Student Aid Report from the FAFSA is required as part of your application. Most students will electronically submit the FAFSA to the FSC Financial Aid Office, and that will be an acceptable form of the Student Aid Report for your scholarship application. If you have your own copy of your Student Aid Report from the FAFSA and would like to also attach a copy, you are welcome to do so below.
